Heating costs in Canada are set province by province. A homeowner in Halifax is reading about heating oil prices; one in Montréal is looking at Hydro-Québec's second energy tier; one in Calgary pays under $1.50 a gigajoule for gas yet still sees an October bill of about $88. HeatingNews.ca follows those differences. We read the regulator decisions, utility releases and Statistics Canada data, report them plainly with their dates, and explain what each one means for the companies that heat Canadian homes.
This month's heating market, in brief
The short answer: oil is up sharply, electricity is rising steadily, and gas depends entirely on where you are.
- Heating oil: Statistics Canada's September 2026 CPI shows fuel oil and other fuels 57.8% higher than a year earlier, with the heaviest effect in Atlantic Canada.
- Electricity: regulators approved increases of 4.29% for NB Power, 4.0% interim for Manitoba Hydro and 3.0% for Hydro-Québec homes this year.
- Natural gas: FortisBC bills rose about 11% in January, Ontario's Enbridge Gas prices edged up in July, and Alberta's October default commodity rate was $1.458 per GJ.
The full list, grouped by region, is in the newsroom.
Why provincial detail matters to a heating business
The short answer: the same headline means different things to different customers, and your marketing should know the difference.
A 4% electricity increase is a real cost for a baseboard-heated home in Moncton and close to irrelevant for a gas-heated home in Saskatoon. A rise in oil prices moves Prince Edward Island, where oil was the primary heating energy for 28% of households in 2023, far more than British Columbia. Contractors who copy national messaging into a local market end up promising savings their customers cannot see on their own bills.
We use the provincial picture to decide three things for each client:
- which homes in the service area a change actually affects;
- what an honest message to those homes looks like, with dated numbers;
- when to publish it, so it appears while people are searching.
Our areas section has a page for each province and the territories with the heating mix, regulators and open programs as of our last check.
What we do for heating contractors
The short answer: we turn market changes into pages, campaigns and local visibility, and we are not a contractor ourselves.
HeatingNews.ca is a digital marketing and business consulting service for heating companies. We do not install, repair or service any equipment. Our services are four, each built around how the heating market changes:
- Rate-change and program explainer pages that answer homeowners' questions about a decision in your area.
- Fuel-switching and replacement campaigns for homeowners weighing oil, gas, electric and heat pump options.
- Local search for heating contractors, built around your towns and fuels.
- Heating-season paid search that follows the cold and the rate calendar.
Proof from our HVAC work
The short answer: named clients, linked sites, published numbers.
Our approach comes from heating and cooling marketing. CanroHeat.ca recorded 250% lead growth. For CANRO Heat we built a gas-boiler division, GasBoilers.ca, which now reaches 26+ BC communities; its Google rating stands at 5.0★ from 76+ Google reviews. BCWide.ca reached 3× leads in 90 days. Roma Heating & Cooling grew organic traffic 400% in 12 months. The results page explains what each of these shows and what transfers to your market. Results depend on your market and operations, and no one can promise them.

Frequently asked questions
What is HeatingNews.ca?
HeatingNews.ca is a Canadian heating market newsroom and a digital marketing and business consulting service for heating companies. It belongs to the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group of companies; Ali Sedighi, MBA leads it from the group's Vancouver, BC headquarters.
Are you a heating contractor?
No. We report on the heating market and we market heating businesses. We do not install, repair or service furnaces, boilers, heat pumps or any other equipment, and we never send technicians to homes.
Where does your news come from?
From documents we load and read ourselves: utility regulators such as the Ontario Energy Board and the Régie de l'énergie, provincial utility boards, utilities' own releases, and Statistics Canada. Every story links its source and shows the source's date.
What does the marketing side cost?
Plans start at $2,998 a month, and websites start at $3,500, in Canadian dollars plus GST/HST based on your province (GST and QST in Quebec). Before paying anything, heating companies get seven days of free audit work (no card on file), and they can walk away at the end of any month. The pricing page has the details.
Will a rate change automatically bring us more calls?
Not automatically, and no one can promise it. What we can do is show you how we would time pages and ads around rate decisions in your province, what similar work produced for our HVAC clients, and how we would measure it.
Do you cover my province?
Yes. We cover all 10 provinces and 3 territories, with a page for each region that tracks its heating mix, regulators and open programs as of our last check.
